M1 Peer Pleasure is a youth theatre festival with a social conscience, presented in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. Our most recent Artistic Director of the festival from 2018-2020 was independent artist and drama educator, Jean Ng. She succeeded Alvin Tan (Artistic Director of The Necessary Stage) who filled this role from 2015-2017.

A key goal of the festival is to develop and showcase more original works by young people so that they can communicate their unique perspectives on relevant social issues and contribute to a richer understanding of the world we live in. Youth participants experience a 1.5 years research and creation process each year on a particular social issue, before staging their final work to a public audience.

The festival includes plays, engagement programmes comprising workshops and community dialogues, as well as the M1 Theatre Ninja Programme – production and design mentorship programmes.
