The Greenhouse Sessions #19

The Greenhouse Sessions #21
Embedded Artists in Residential Spaces

Date and Time

Saturday, 13 March 2021
10am – 12.30pm
Online Event

Why are residential spaces important to community development? How do different spaces contribute to that end? Where and what are the possibilities for arts practices in residential spaces?

This panel brings together diverse organisations to examine different approaches to the use of residential spaces in community-based projects. How can artistic practice intersect with approaches of housing, health and culture? What inspirations do residential spaces offer?

Melissa Sim (Senior Community Relations Manager, Community Relations Group) will share the intentions and outcomes behind the Housing & Development Board Lively Spaces Programme, while Edwina Tang (Deputy Director, Engagement & Participation) will talk about the National Arts Council’s approach and experiences with Arts In Your Neighbourhood. From the health paradigm, Evon Chua (Senior Manager, Population Health & Community Transformation) will provide deeper insights on Yishun Health’s use of community development and creative approaches in their Wellness Kampongs. Joining them will also be Hasyimah Harith (Company Manager, P7:1SMA) who will share the company’s understanding and approach to residential spaces as well as how it is integral to their practice as an independent dance company.

The sharing will be followed by a Q&A session and discussion with all participants.

FAQ about The Greenhouse Sessions

The Greenhouse Sessions is a programme by ArtsWok Collaborative. It is a community of practice where people who share a common concern for arts-based community development, teach one another to do it better through a process of regular engagement.

Our sessions involve:

  • Connecting with other experienced practitioners working in the field of arts in communities
  • Exchanging information, stories and personal experiences in a way that builds understanding and insight
  • Generating new knowledge and collaboration opportunities through this shared platform to kick-start meaningful action

As this is a community of practice, the sessions will be open only to those who have some experience or expertise related to the session, as well as individuals who have a keen interest to contribute to the topics of the session.

The emphasis here is on group learning, so while literature and other resources will be made available to participants from time to time, the collective wisdom of the community of practice is the real treasure. So come prepared to give and to receive.
