The Greenhouse Sessions #11
Creative Placemaking: Building Communities By Transforming Space to Place
Is creative placemaking possible in Singapore where much of the land and infrastructure is state-owned? When is a project creative placemaking versus business as usual? What are some of the ways in which artists can play a key role in activating physical spaces into vibrant places that people are attracted to and have ownership over as a community?
Spaces have immense potential to become transformative places for communities. In recent years, more people and communities across the world are drawing on arts and cultural activities to shape the physical and social character of neighbourhoods, bringing diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired. This community-driven process is now known as “creative placemaking”.
Share your thoughts and experiences with us at the next Greenhouse Session. Joining us to kickstart the conversations will be our guest speaker Dr Hoe Su Fern, from the Institute of Policy Studies who is currently researching on arts and cultural policy projects focusing on Arts Housing, Creative Placemaking and Community Arts in Singapore.
