The Greenhouse Sessions #15
Between Two Homes – From Empathy To Engagement
The Greenhouse Sessions return with an exciting new format. We will be looking at case studies and deconstructing ways to do creative civic engagement. Our half-day format, held on a weekend, will also allow more time for participants to network with one another.
In the first of our new series, we will be featuring a group of community advocates who have been working with residents of Dakota Crescent as they resettle into their new homes.
Started as Dakota Adventures, the group co-guided tours in the old estate with residents. Between Two Homes was then set up as a website that documents stories of the resettlement. Cassia Resettlement Team is their latest effort to help the displaced residents resettle into their new environment.
As part of these efforts, the volunteers who engage in these community interventions to address the needs of residents have developed a workshop as a tool to help people think deeper about the complexities of this event, such as the impact of the relocation on residents, many who are low – income and elderly.
The team behind the initiative will be sharing about their project, including various methods of empathy building, community interventions and policy negotiations with various stakeholders so as to actively solve challenges on the ground.
In the spirit of a community of practice, the team of facilitators will also be conducting a short workshop to share their methodology, and to explore the issues involved in designing and implementing an arts-based community building project while participants are encouraged to give feedback on how to improve it in a dynamic, reciprocal process.
We welcome you to join us. Lunch will be provided.
