M1 Peer Pleasure is a youth theatre festival with a social conscience, presented in collaboration with Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. Our current Artistic Director is Jean Ng. The annual festival is a platform for young people aged 13-25 to stage productions at professional theatre venues, under the mentorship of theatre professionals, for audiences young and old. These collaborations let youths engage with their peers and with issues that concern them, culminating in creative and open exchanges through drama and dialogue.

A key goal of the festival is to develop and showcase more original works by young people so that they can communicate their unique perspectives on relevant social issues and contribute to a richer understanding of the world we live in. Youth participants experience a 1.5 years research and creation process each year on a particular social issue, before staging their final work to a public audience.

The festival includes plays, engagement programmes comprising workshops and community dialogues, as well as the M1 Theatre Ninja Programme – production and design mentorship programmes.
